March Preparedness Item: Water Storage
"Water-Water-Everywhere, but not a drop to drink" Samuel Taylor Coleridge
MARCH To Do… Add water to your emergency kit and learn about
water safety!
WHO: You, your family, and your pet.
WHAT: Water
·
-Enough water for each person in your family to
last 4 days at 1 gallon of water per person per day. Consider pets also.
Depending on the size of your pet the recommendation is 1 gallon for 3 days.
·
Water for your personal-portable emergency
backpack. Water pouches like the ones that came in our kits, or just a clean
screw-top bottle filled with tap water works just fine.
WHERE: Amazon
–water pouches
Gallon
jugs- Grocery Stores etc.
WHEN: Today! Or next time you are at the store.
WHY: Whether you live in the country or
the city, your water supply relies on electricity. If the water
purification system in your area is compromised, whether due to severe
flooding, power outages, or other problems, the water supply becomes
unsafe to drink. As a result, you need to know how to find a source of
safe drinking water or how to treat water for use.
Other safe water tasks:
·
Know where your main water shut off is located
in the event of a burst pipe.
· Learn how to get a safe supply of water from
your water heater.
·
Learn how to sanitize water by boiling, adding
bleach or iodine tablets.
