Completing the Emergency Kit
FEBRUARY!
This is the first installment of affordable and important items to complete your Emergency Preparedness Kits. In addition to acquiring these items take some time to learn how to use them so when an emergency happens you will have the supplies you need and the skills to use them.
To Do…..Add an AM/FM radio to emergency kit.
Who: You! This helps you, your family, your neighbors, really everyone benefits from staying informed.
What: AM/FM radio
Details: a crank radio is a good option because you don’t need to worry about buying and rotating batteries. If you do get a battery powered radio, consider getting one that uses the same size batteries as other things in your kit such as your flashlight or headlamp. Also be sure to rotate out the batteries once a year. Do not store the batteries in the radio itself as some radios can draw a little bit of power even when tuned off, which can deplete your
batteries even though you are not using it.
Where: I like buying on Amazon. Tons of options, lowest prices.

A cheaper option- Click Here
Or just check out Costco, Target etc.
When: Now, or tomorrow, or the next time you are already at the store.
Why: Because knowledge is power. Imagine that your internet and television are not working after a disaster. How will you know what is going on in your community? As a society we take for granted the ease with which we can access information at a moment’s notice. Depending on the situation communication channels could be down for some time. It will be important to have a radio so that you and your family can locate emergency workers and other forms of assistance and information.
