Traffic on Sunnyside Lane
Hello all,
There is currently an effort underway to consider investigating the lane usage of one of the main approaches to our area. More specifically, Sunnyside Lane, one of the major thoroughfares to the University Orthopaedic Center, Research Park, and by extension, a link to the Main University Hospital.
Per the message below the Salt Lake City Council and Mayor Ralph Becker have agreed to seek public input before proceeding with the 'Sunnyside Lane Diet' testing.
As we want to do all we can for our patients and staff we wanted to make you aware of this important event.
Thank you for your consideration.

Hi everyone,
The Sunnyside Lane Diet test is
on temporary hold awaiting further discussion by the City Council and
additional public input. The Council's discussion is scheduled for this
Tuesday evening March 6, at 7:00 at the City-County Building (451
S. State), room 315 (or possibly across the hall) and the discussion is open to
the public. The formal meeting begins at 7:00 and the discussion is set
to begin at 7:30. Please plan to attend the meeting. A strong
showing is critically important.
It is even more important
to send an email to the mayor and the council members prior to that meeting.
Please contact each of them again and reaffirm your opposition
to any lane reduction on Sunnyside. Your email can be as simple as: I am
opposed to any lane reduction or elimination on Sunnyside Avenue. I also
oppose any test of this concept as I believe it would be overly disruptive and
would cause traffic to shift into the neighborhoods and put pedestrians, and
especially children, at risk.
Here are the emails arranged
for a simple copy and paste: mayor@slcgov.com,
soren.simonsen@slcgov.com, charlie.luke@slcgov.com, carlton.christensen@slcgov.com,
kyle.lamalfa@slcgov.com, stan.penfold@slcgov.com, luke.garrott@slcgov.com, jill.love@slcgov.com
Charlie Luke is planning to
hold public meetings in District 6 on March 21 and March 22 at
Indian Hills Elementary and Carmen Pingree Schools. The dates and times
are not yet concrete, but please block one of these times on your calendar.
Attendance at these meetings will be crucial to opposing any lane
elimination on Sunnyside. -- We will send more information as soon as
possible.
If you are so inclined, we are gathering ideas for solutions on Sunnyside
that could enhance the livability/cyclist/pedestrian accessibility without
inhibiting traffic capacity.

Thanks for all!
