Mark Your Calendars - - Be Well Utah Activities and Events

Dear Colleagues:

This year I encourage you and your family to participate in one of the many activities we have planned during our annual Be Well Utah Family Health Week. This annual tradition, in partnership with Regence BlueCross BlueShield, is a week featuring free screenings, family activities and educational opportunities aimed at giving our community the ingredients they need for living a healthy and happy lifestyle. Please join me at these complimentary activities:

Family Night
Red Butte Garden, Tuesday, Sept. 6,  4 – 6 p.m.
Gather the family, lace up your sneakers and join us for Family Night at Red Butte Garden. You’ll get free garden admission after 4 p.m. Hike with your family through the garden and natural areas and explore health and safety exhibits. Meet some of your favorite PBS KIDS characters, courtesy of KUED!

Senior Focus
Taylorsville Senior Center, Friday, Sept. 9, 9 – 11:30 a.m.
Join us for a morning focused on your good health. Get free vision and health screenings. Watch informative presentations on nutrition, healthy eating demonstrations, vision care and other topics.

Walk and Wag for Wellness
Fort Douglas on the U of U Campus, Saturday, Sept. 10, 8 – 10 a.m.
Did you know that walking with your best canine friend is a great way to stay healthy and happy? People with pets go to the doctor less often, get more exercise and suffer less depression overall. Bring your family and four-legged buddies and stroll with us through beautiful Fort Douglas. Free dog sitters will be available for those who want to attend the fair after the walk!

5K Run in Rhythm…
U of U Campus, Saturday, Sept. 10, 8 – 10 a.m.
Run or walk for AFib with University of Utah Health Care’s CARMA Center. Atrial Fibrillation is a cardiac arrhythmia that affects more than four million Americans and causes 20 percent of all strokes. Bring the entire family and join in this year’s theme of patients vs. doctors. Dress up in lab coats, patient gowns or come as your favorite mad scientist for AFib! Free T-Shirts to the first 500 who register!

Family Health Fair
Rice Eccles Stadium, Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Be Well Utah Family Health Fair is filled with fun, health-focused activities for the entire family. Everything is free, including parking and admission. Get a free dental assessment and complimentary screenings for glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol and more. Enjoy the Kids’ Corner full of fun, healthy activities, healthy cooking demonstrations, on-field activities, a bike rodeo with bike safety course and live entertainment!

For more information and a complete list of activities, please visit the Be Well Utah website. I’ll see you there!

Sincerely,
